Located approximately 40 KM away from the main city of Antigua lies one of the countries oldest and most renowned coffee growing region better known as the Antigua valley. As it's name implies, "Los Volcanes" coffee is grown in the valley's rich volcanic soils that were formed by the three volcanoes (Agua, Acatenango, Fuego) that surround the flat or gently sloping terrain of this area. Most of the coffee here is cultivated at 1,500 - 1,700 meters above sea level which helps gives this coffee a pronounced acidity that is clean but not overpowering.
In 2000, 34 local producers came together to found the Genuine Antigua Coffee Growers Association (APCA) in an effort to protect the name "Antigua" as both a denomination of the origin of the coffee and a guarantee of the quality of the coffee Los Volcanes is sourced from several of the member farms to creates a beautiful cup profile that proudly represents the reputation for high quality Antiguan coffee.
