The Papau New Guinea Kimel AA is produced on the Kimel plantation located in the Wahgi Valley of New Guinea's western highlands. The Kimel plantation was established in 1974 by Australian Bobby Gibbs. Today the 620 hectares that comprise the farm are cooperatively owned by the region's traditional landowners the Opais tribe. In addition to schooling for the employees children and medical facilities for the workers and their families, the estate provides housing for it 432 employees.
The coffee grown on the Kimel Estate is cultivated under Albizias and Grevilleas trees and the farm management focuses on consistent and sound agricultural and processing procedures to ensure high quality coffee from harvest to harvest. The farm has also implemented a variety of eco-friendly practices including pulp composting which is used as organic fertilizer and recycling water used during the wet processing.
